Ain't the muffinman related to the gingerbread man?

And that's exactly why the question exists. Some people are convinced that the muffin man is a baker who makes muffins, while other people are convinced that by the pattern of other whimsical characters such as the gingerbread man and Frosty the Snowman, he must be a muffin with anthropomorphic features.

OK you made me go look it up:-P

Its first written version is a 4 line poem circa 1820, London England.

"Do you know the muffin man And don't you know his name Do you know the muffin man, That lives in Drury Lane?"

Its about a man who sold muffins, back in he early nineteenth century. Original manuscript still kept in the Bodleian Library in Oxford.

It would appear The Muffin Man was a short legged sea bird who sold inferior cup-cakes outside a theatre. So says Frank anyhow...

Some people... some people like cupcakes exclusively, while myself, I say
There is naught nor ought there be nothing so exalted on the face of gods grey
Earth as that prince of foods... the muffin!

Girl you thought he was a man
But he was a muffin
He hung around till you found
That he didn't know nuthin

Girl you thought he was a man
But he only was a-puffin
No cries is heard in the night
As a result of him stuffin
